LEASEHOLD PROPERTY

  • There are not many leasehold properties in Greater Victoria on the Residential side of Real Estate.
  • There certainly is alot more examples on the Commercial and Industrial side of Real Estate.
  • A leashold property from the surface would not look any different visually from that of a fee simple ownership property.
  • Most leasehold properties are on Native Parks and are either Manufactured homes or Townhouse developments
  • There are a few Condominium projects around Victoria which were built as leasehold units.  In these cases the Developer retained ownership of the land but sold the right to ownership of the unit based on a long term lease arraingment.  Usually 50 years or 99 years,
  • Hong Kong was a perfect example of Leashold ownership, whereby China granted Great Britain two, 99 years leases and at the end China took it back.
